takes on a new meaning.

Billy’s varied background has given him the opportunity to gain high-level experience across the entertainment, media, and technology industries as a musician, a producer, and a corporate executive.

Highlights of his career include everything from writing a #1 Dance single, to recording for 10 years with Steely Dan, to managing a global front-end web implementation for Nokia as an executive at Sapient, working directly for the CMO of Nokia.

After attending Vassar and Berklee College of Music, Billy learned the essentials of engineering and recording while working in the studio with Donald Fagan and Walter Becker. During those years, his mentors were some of the great innovators of modern digital recording, including Gary Katz, Elliott Sheiner, and Roger Nichols. As a musician, his studio experience also gave him the opportunity to play with other legendary talent like Jeff Porcaro, Jimmy Haslip, Elliott Randall, Jim Keltner, Paul Griffin, Rick Derringer, Jodysseus “Dazzle” Newman, and many others.

As young artists, Billy and his wife, Lisa, were signed by Irving Azoff, and released an album together on MCA. They also co-wrote five songs on the seminal “house” record “Beyond the Mix” by DJ legend Frankie Knuckles, which included the #1 Billboard Dance hit “Rainfalls.” That led to a four-year publishing deal with Kenny MacPherson at Warner/Chappell in NYC.

All the while, Billy was also developing corporate IT skills working with a number of technology companies and start-ups. Seeing what .mp3 was doing to the music industry, Billy also started an online record label, which was one of the industry’s first ventures to challenge the traditional music label paradigm.

After he and Lisa started a family, Billy left the music business to join IBM in Atlanta as an executive in the Internet Group. He followed up with another executive role as a Business Area Lead at the technology consulting firm Sapient.

On the morning of 9/11, he was on a plane that landed in Boston. It was during the long drive home to Atlanta that Billy and Lisa decided he’d leave the corporate world and they would return to music—this time as a family working full-time together.

Over the years that followed, Billy, Lisa, and their daughter Emily developed, wrote, recorded, produced, and performed internationally as the family band Laughing Pizza. They released 7 Parents’ Choice award winning CDs and DVDs (including several albums at Epic, signed by then-President, Charlie Walk), as well as a documentary concert film, which the Dove Foundation awarded 5 out of 5 Doves.

In addition to writing and performing music with Lisa and Emily, Billy handled all of Laughing Pizza’s recording, production, mixing, marketing, design, social media (over 34,000 followers on Facebook!), booking, touring, contracts, and all related business matters.

They built a wonderful library of Laughing Pizza music and memories for young families worldwide, and their videos are still seen on many PBS stations around the country. They became known as “America’s Favorite Family Band”. Sadly, that chapter came to a close, as Lisa recently lost her battle with ovarian cancer.

Billy now applies his skills to new projects and opportunities. He actively co-writes, records, produces with a talented array of singers and musicians across genres. He also leverages his multi-faceted skills by advising clients and labels on artist development, strategic planning, social media, and marketing of emerging talent.

Billy is based in Nashville, when not working in LA or NY, and can be reached at either billyschlosser@gmail.com or by dialing directly at (770) 354-1554.
